Example Design: Solar Water Pumping for a Farm in Nigeria
An example design for a farm that irrigates from a borehole: a solar pump inverter runs the existing three-phase pump directly from solar panels during the day, replacing most diesel generator hours.

The Challenge
A farm pumps irrigation water from a borehole with a 7.5kW three-phase pump powered by a diesel generator. Fuel cost, deliveries and generator maintenance make daily irrigation expensive and unreliable.
The Solution
The design adds a EURONET 7.5kW three-phase solar pump inverter (VFD) with built-in MPPT, fed by 17 EURONET 590W bifacial panels (about 10kWp) through a DC combiner box with surge protection. The pump runs directly from solar during daylight and fills a storage tank, so no batteries are needed.
Results
- Existing 7.5kW three-phase pump driven directly by solar
- About 10kWp PV array, no battery bank required
- Water stored in a tank instead of energy stored in batteries
- Generator kept only as a backup for cloudy periods
